Welcome to the second segment of my summer 2018 travels and how God has spoken to me in each place that I’ve visited! To read about God’s message to me at my first stop, the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, click here.
The second stop in my summer travels was Mackinac Island, Michigan… a truly gorgeous place! I visited with my boyfriend and his parents, and we stayed at the Grand Hotel. I know what you’re probably thinking… how did God speak to me in such radically different places?
On the one hand, God spoke to me on a damp rock with water from the most beautiful waterfall rushing around me… in the midst of His creation.
On the other hand, God spoke to me in the grandeur of one of the most expensive hotels in the United States.
While He reminded me of how awesome and wonderful and magnificent He is while in Tennessee, He reminded me that I married into royalty while in Michigan.
You see, from the moment that I stepped foot into the Grand Hotel, I felt a little out of place. I’m just a small-town girl from the rural South who is more likely to be found in cut-off jean shorts and a t-shirt than in a fancy dress and heels. I don’t frequent “fancy” places on a regular basis. Insecurity creeped in as I felt like maybe I wasn’t “good enough” to be found in such a place.
Jesus spoke so sweetly to me then. He said, “Macey, you belong because you were invited.”
Here comes the epiphany.
It’s the same with a relationship with Jesus. When we accept His invitation for salvation from our sins, we (as people who were formerly “out of place” in regard to His kingdom) instantly belong to the family of God.
It doesn’t matter what our past sins are.
It doesn’t matter what our resumes say.
It doesn’t matter what people think of us.
It doesn’t matter what the devil is throwing in our faces.
We are royalty.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9
“Because you are precious in My eyes, and honored, and I love you…”
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”
Chosen. Royal. Holy. His possession. Precious. Honored. Loved. Treasured.
We can describe ourselves this way because Jesus described us this way. This is how He views us. We are worthy to step into all that He has for us. We are worthy to claim the title of royalty.
Let’s embrace these descriptions, friends. Let’s embrace our royal titles.
